I love these moves for Edmonton. Scrivens is going to be a solid #1 for years to come. I miss him.

Gotta disagree with your assessment of Hendricks, yes he works hard and is physical, but he's been a bad possession player and not exactly an efficient plyer either(usually serviceable players are one of the two, players who don't need to be good possession players to be successful or players that are decent possession players). He's 32 and has 3 full years still left at 1.85, not a big cap hit, but someone you guys will likely be complaining about within a year. Would have been better off acquiring a pick or a project young player.

Dubnyk IMO can still be a decent goalie, but he probably needed a change. Scrivens or a 3rd is a good pickup, I'm sure he'll get extended.

I like the 2nd trade, the 1st trade not so much.

I like the moves. I was never really sold and Dubie and after seeing some of the goals he gives up at terrible times my feelings towards just got more negative. I don't know if Scrivens will be the answer. But anything has to be better.

Agree- neither party wanted to entertain the idea of continuing this next year... Good on MacT to move on and get something out of nothing... As for Nashville- a better defensive team may allow Dub to find a niche and also a fresh start...

I don't get how 1.85mil is such a horrid contract to deal with going forward. Maybe not ideal, but it's not going to be crippling.

I like the moves and am shocked that we really gave up nothing to get a couple of guys that could help us out.

I don't think the Oilers could have gotten much more for Dubnyk. Maybe a late pick, but I doubt even a project player could have been received.

If anyone would have said Dubynk would be traded for Matt Hendricks at the beginning of the year you would have be laughed out of town. Boy, did Dubnyks value plummet yikes.

I won't be shocked to see Dubie do well elsewhere, at the same time I just don't think his head was in the game this year so who knows.

Yep. I also think if in November you would've proposed the deal most would've laughed as Dubnyk really went downhill and Hendricks was a guy some(including myself) really wanted in the off-season.

If it doesn't improve he is out of the NHL IMO...

I know that the name "Clouts" gets invoked any time I write something slightly controversial, but honestly this is the same title I would give the article if I was still writing in my old wordpress blog.

We can check on him and Belanger's states from the bottom-dwelling Swiss league team next year

Great blog. I completely agree. Hendricks is a plug but I would have traded dubnyk for a half eaten sandwich anyways. If you view the deal in terms of Dubnyk for Scrivens and a 3rd it's a steal.

I think Dubnyk could do well in the Trotz system, which is far more defenisve and trap minded than Edmonton's open play style. Likewise I highly doubt you;ll see Scriven achieve anywhere near the same numbers at EDM that he did in LA.

You'd need a goalie like Miller in EDM to really experience a boost between the pipes. Someone who has shined in a team that plays a looser system (or in BUF's case no system) for more attack-minded focus.

So I remember not long ago every oiler fan on here said Dub was worth a 1st easy and is waaay better then Riemer. What happened to that huh?

Give it 7 or 8 starts and you will realize you have not improved your goaltending situation one iota.

Edmonton shipped out a brutal Goalie and a 3rd round pick and got back a physical presence for their bottom 6 who is also a penalty killer along with what may be the answer to their questions in Net. I cant believe there were so many people who hastily labeled any part of these moves as bad for the club.

This paragraph here sums it up perfectly. This draft class doesn't appear to be deep, I'm sure we will be picks back by the TDD. Our bottom 6 is tougher now, same with the PK. And our goalie scenario looks promising again!

Change is as good as a rest they say...Hopefully Dubie will "refind" his game.....in the mean time I like the moves.....any time you can pick up a goalie of Scrivens caliber for a 3rd rounder.....it makes you wonder "what took so long?"
